As part of our Science topic on Water in Mr Kirkham’s class, we have looked at what we can be doing to help preserve the water that is naturally recycled here on Earth. Through studying the Water Cycle we have recognised the importance of protecting the world we live in. Earth Day, from its humble beginnings in America in the 1970’s has now grown into a global event with 22nd April being symbolic with the date of the first global conservation treaty being signed. Children and adults from all over the world now celebrate this day by trying to make a difference, however small, and think about how we can help save the planet we live on. Posters were designed as part of our homework to show different ways in which we could save resources and help our planet. We used books from the library on the Earth, to help our understanding, for our Earth Day stall on the basketball court. Pledges were sort from hugging a tree and talking to plants to switching off lights and recycling paper. In Our Literacy lessons we had been looking at the art of persuasion and we had to be at our most persuasive to get our ‘Save the Planet’ message across. Thankfully everyone acknowledged the importance of our message and even Mr. Honey Jones joined in and hugged a tree. |
